Country Home
This print which I initially called ‘Inheritance Tax’ is inspired by a visit to a private stately home.. No photography was allowed as the owners couldn’t afford to insure the contents.. therefore they had to keep images away from the prying eyes of the internet. The collection was amazing .. I asked the guide how they had managed to keep it intact.. she explained that just before the last Lord( or whatever) had died a large part of the house had burnt down, ironically this meant that the reduction in value of the estate and therefore death duties meant that they didn’t have to sell off any of the accumulated treasures... I find it hard to untangle all the class and political implications of this but the ruined wing made a beautiful setting for a walled garden..
The print is a three colour silkscreen on birch-plywood. The print was made in a small unnumbered edition and was first shown at my exhibition ‘Decorative Minimalist’ at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2021. The price is inclusive of postage.
